My Message for Teens

You’re probably wondering if things could be better than the way they are now…

Maybe you’re feeling:

Tense. You’re heart is pounding and your breathing is heavy. You feel a knot in the pit of your stomach.

A LOT of self doubt. You believe the negative chatter that you say to yourself.

Like the worst possible thing can and will happen and you won’t be able to handle it.

Like everyone is judging and thinking the worst about you.

All kinds of feelings and sometimes no feelings at all. You may wonder, “What’s wrong with me?” “Why can’t I just be normal like other people?”

Like no one understands you and you feel alone in your experiences.

Maybe you secretly wish that:

You could just feel courageous and confident in any situation.

You could care less what other’s think of you.

People would just get off your back and let you be.

You felt happy and alive more often.

You had a community of people who understood you, supported you, and accepted you as you are (instead of you should be).

Dealing with anxiety is hard. And you were not meant to handle this on your own.  GLOW is here for you.

Trust me, I understand anxiety.

It’s not because I am a mental health therapist who has worked with hundreds of children and teens for many years.

It’s not just because I have a bunch of degrees and certifications.

It’s because I have dealt with crippling anxiety since I was a kid.

As a child, I stuttered. Afraid that my peers would tease me because of my speech, I avoid speaking as much as possible. This fear escalated into social anxiety, where I feared any kind of social situation where I was expected to speak.

It wasn’t until I was an adult, that I got the help I needed (for my anxiety, not the stuttering-that I had to figure out on my own).

Do I still get anxious? Absolutely!

But I learned to work with my fear instead of against it. And as far as my fear of speaking goes- I have a bookcase full of public speaking awards that I’ve earned over the years that prove you can be afraid and still do the things that scares you!

I wanted to create a space for girls like you to be their real and beautifully imperfect selves, while developing confidence, courage, and a sense of calm.

I started GLOW because, as a young girl, this is exactly the program I needed. And it is my sincere wish that it is what you need too!

In the GLOW program, I’ll give you strategies to help you manage the anxiety, so it stops getting in your way.

I will help you look at situations in a more helpful, realistic way that is less likely to lead to anxiety and worry. I won’t promise you that we’ll get rid of your anxiety.

The goal is for your anxiety to be less overwhelming and won’t happen as often. You’ll feel in charge again.

You won’t freak out meeting someone new.

You’ll stop calling yourself names.

You’ll feel confident that you can handle whatever comes your way.

When you do feel anxious or worried, you’ll understand it and know that it makes sense. But most importantly, you’ll know EXACTLY what to do about it.

I can’t to meet you as a member of the GLOW Squad!

Sincerely,
